Hello...I realize your post is old but I have just come across it. My great-great grandparents were Schmittous from Slayden (Dickson County) TN. I have been told that the family name had originally been Von Schmittou but the "Von" had been dropped so as to sound more "American". About two weeks ago I visited Potts Cemetery (in Slayden)where my great-great grandparents (Virginia Schmittou Thomason and J W Thomason) are buried. While looking for Potts Cemetery, we also came across a Hayes Cemetery nearby which had several Schmittous and (I believe, if memory serves) Von Schmittous as well. The Schmittous in Hayes Cemetery are not related to me, as far as I know. I would love to hear anything you might can share regarding the Schmittou/Von Schmittou family. It appears this site does not allow email addresses but I will check back on the message board.

Hi,

This page used to have all the names linked to earlier and later pages, but now they are not. My grandfather. Robert Louis Hall, was born to Laura J. Adams and Dan C. Hall in 1926, but received his brith certificate in 1927. He recently passed away and we are looking for a complete list of his brothers and sisters.

I appreciate your help.

RE:(Nashville) Republican Banner
12 May 1843, p.2, col.5. “Abridged Reports,” Brief summary of decision in case which went to Tenn. Supreme Court from Dickson Co. Christopher STRONG sued John B. HARRIS over the appointment of Sterling BROWER as guardian for HARRIS in 1818.

Question-- is there more on this story? My ancestor's brother, William B. Suit left a will in 1826 in St. Mary's Co MD leaving a person named John B. Harris 1 cow and 1 calf but no one has ever found out who this mystery person was. Found this site by using Google.

Here is a copy of the will from Mike Marshall's fantastic website at:http://wc.rootsweb.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op=GET&db=mrmarsha&id=I61753

=== Contributed by Ralph D. Smith
Mar. 28, 1826 - The St. Mary's Co., Md. will of William Suit, probated Sep. 2, 1826, leaves:
--to brother Samuel Suit, my wearing apparel; one cart and gear; one saddle and saddle bags; one old musket; one pair steelyards; one crosscut saw; and all of the carpenter's, cooper's, and shoemaker's tools.
--to cousin Elkanah B. Broadey, $10 current money.
--to James Herbert, one of my books called "Gibson's Surveying"; one book called "Kelly's Bookkeeping"; one book called "Murry's English Grammar"; and one book called "Delworthe's Arithmetic."
--to John B. Harris, one cow and calf.
--to cousin Ann Suit, all of the residue of my personal estate. She is to also have the land where I now live called "Burroughs Gift" during her life. After her death, half of the land is devised to my brother Samuel Suit and the other half is to be equally divided among my nieces and nephews, James Llewellen Herbert, William Uriah Herbert, Ann Herbert, Susanna Catherine Herbert, and Priscilla Herbert.
Executor: Cousin Ann Suit.
Witnesses: Samuel Keech, William L. Edwards, William B. Sothoron.

William Marvin Purdom was married to Betty Smith, the daughter of Clarence William and Sarah Jane (BROWNING) Smith. Betty was born 8/9/1908 and died 1/1/2000 in Davidson County, TN ... I'm not sure where Marvin died (probably Nashville ?), he was born in Kentucky and is found living as a 20 year old in Nashville in 1900 (born 8/1879).

suI have never found him other than that one census.
