John Adams and Peggy

John Adams settled near Ruskin Cave in Yellow Creek about 1804. He was born in in 1786 in Halifax County, VA where he met and married Margaret “Peggy” Turner, “a sister of George Turner, who married his sister Susan Adams.”* They purchased several hundred acres o­n Yellow Creek, including what is now known as Ruskin Cave, although it did not recieve that name until the late 1890's when the Ruskin Colony moved there.

At the time of his death, in 1865, it is said that John Adams had become the wealthiest man in Dickson County. Goodspeed mentions John Adams of Yellow Creek as having owned o­ne of the first cornmills in the county, and o­ne of the first distilleries.
