Amnisty Oath, Jan.-May, 1864

by admin on November 30th, 2002

The “Andrew Johnson Papers”, microfilmed by the Library of
Congress, include a register of persons taking the amnesty oath
at Nashville, Tenn., from Jan. – May, 1864.

It gives only the most
basic information — date, name of person, and county of
residence. Each entry is numbered in order (#1, #2, #3, etc.)
The register is
microfilmed as Series 8b on reels 49 and 50.

Dickson Co. residents included were:

  • 113. 17 Feb. 1864. B.J. ROBERTSON
  • 363. 23 Feb. 1864. M.D. CAWARES (hard to read)
  • 643. 26 Feb. 1864. John T. JONES (“his mark”)
  • 838. 29 Feb. 1864. J.W. SIMPKINS
  • 1130. 5 Mar. 1864. M. PETTY
  • 1131. 5 Mar. 1864. J.D. SUGG
  • 1132. 5 Mar. 1864. K. (or R.?) MYATT
  • 1272. 8 Apr. 1864. M. Maurice HILAND
  • 1495 15 Apr. 1864. Ann G. ROBERTSON

(the list really does include some women; slightly further down
the list appears: #1508 18 Apr. 1864. Rebecca JONES — from
Humphreys Co., for example)

Special thanks to Bill Page for sharing this list with us.
