Welcome to Dickson County, Tennessee

Dickson-Online was first established in 1996. At that time it was a small community site, housed on Mindspring.com. The site grew and in 1998 it became known as DCTN.com, home of Dickson County's Genealogy Project. Again the site grew. In 2003 it was decided that DCTN.com and Dickson-Online would merge, becoming the difinitive site for Dickson Countians to gather, find local information and news as well as a place for genealogists to search their roots.

Members are encouraged to submit reviews/recipes/tips & genealogy data by using the Submit News link in the left column. Tell us some of your favorite places around the county, what's worth seeing, where to eat, where to shop. Suggestions for new categories and sections are welcome. Feel free to email  me.

2/25/08 - moving to new server. pardon any errors.

WILLIAM JR. TATOM was born Bet. 1790 - 1794 in North Carolina, and died 30 Sep 1844 in Johnson co., Arkansas. He married ELIZABETH RICHARDSON Bet. 1815 - 1817, daughter of THOMAS RICHARDSON and ?. Their children were born in Dickson county.

THOMAS J. RICHARDSON was born Abt. 1760 in Maryland, and died 1816 in Dickson co., TN. He married first wife is unknown. She was born Abt. 1765. He married his second wife WINNEFRED "WINNIE" .

Dr. William DICKSON, Sr. of Davidson Co. (for whom Dickson County is said to be named) has long been reported (Nesbitt and others) to be the son of Col William DICKSON of Duplin Co. NC.Recent deed discoveries suggest that he was actually the son of James DICKSON of Duplin Co. NC. And the title "Father of a County" (as designated by Mr. Nesbitt) may be more deserved by that James DICKSON rather than his brother, Joseph DICKSON whose will is the first one recorded in Dickson Co.

Recent discoveries have led me to the belief that there were probably 4 (maybe 5) Hugh DICKONS living in Dickson County prior to 1820. Two were adults and the descendents have been placed incorrectly. This has resulted in much confusion and I would welcom help in sorting them all out. o?ne thing is for sure...the Hugh DICKSON who bought land from David WILSON in 1803 and from whom many Dickson Co. residents descend is NOT the son of Joseph DICKSON

The information o?n the descendents of Hugh DICKSON, son of Joseph DICKSON, is not correct as shown o?n this Website and most other places including Nesbitt's "The Primal Families of the Yellow Creek Valley". There were two Hugh DICKSON. Go to "surnames" o?n this site and look for my comment under "Hugh DICKSON".
